Little Witch, Big Cup: Seba Verón Emulates Dad With Copa Libertadores Win

By: Daryl | July 16th, 2009

Cruzeiro were favourites to win the Copa Libertores final, having held Estudiantes to a 0-0 first leg draw in Argentina thanks to the heroics of Fabio.

But it was Estudiantes who won the second leg 2-1 in Brazil. Henrique put Cruzeiro ahead early in the second half, but Estudiantes equalized when Gaston Fernandez tapped in both the easiest and most important goal of his career, before Mauro Boselli scored the 73rd minute winner by heading home a Juan Sebastián Verón corner.

Big big deal for Verón, who returned to Argentina with a few doubts about how much he had left but has now emulated his famous father Juan Ramón Verón by winning the Copa Lib with Estudiantes.

Mostly anway. Verón Snr. won the Copa with Estudiantes in 1968, 1969 and 1970. So all Seba Verón has to do now is win the trophy twice more in a row.
