Penarol vs Newell’s Old Boys: A Not so Friendly Friendly

By: Daryl | August 9th, 2009

This was supposed to be a friendly between Penarol (of Uruguay, yellow and black) and Newell’s Old Boys (of Argentina, red and black).

But the game was abandoned with 40 minutes on the clock, when a punch-up between Penarol midfielder Julio Mozzo (#7) and Newell’s defender Diego Mateo (#5) turned into a mass brawl between the two teams.

You may recall that the Uruguayan season was abandoned this year due to problems with violence. Nice to see that problem has been solved then.

I'm looking at this, and I'm comparing it to the "Chick Fight" post from earlier.

Julio Mozzo could probably hold his own with the Aussies, but imagine Diego Matteo with his wild swipes up against those visious, highly co-ordinated chinese under 19's.

    Men against boys.

    Or girls against boys.

    Or something.
