Refereeing Goes From Bad To Worse In Brazil
By: chris | January 26th, 2009After the side-netting incident between Botafogo and Boavista, it’s the offside call that never ever was between Flamengo and the awesomely named Friburguense.
Unfortunately for Friburguense they got the call very, very wrong and, unlike in Boavista v Botafogo, it stayed very, very wrong. Check out Victor Hugo as he puts the ball in the back of the net at the 4:15 mark while clearly being kept on by not one, not two, but three whole defenders. Didn’t matter, one of the worst offside calls ever transpires.
Maybe Brazilian referees should just take a lesson from Ana Paula de Oliveira and take their clothes off – one can certainly do no wrong after that.
And I don’t need to tell you the result, but will anyway: 1-0 Flamengo, of course.

I don’t believe this is just bad refereeing. I think there’s a little more to it than that. Especially since Brazilian footy has been known to be run by mobsters and such…

Hey, that’s nowhere near the non-call against Sevilla when they were playing Valencia in the Copa Del Rey, scope it on 101. Six or so yards offside, no flag!

Flamengo has ALWAYS been known for their corruption. back in the 1981 when they stole the title from Atletico Mineiro by sending off 5 players (including goalie) for even bumping into the ref, and theyre doing it now. its a shame.
