It is always interesting to see how football fans around the world support their teams. Some sing, some dance, some throw streamers, some light flairs and others set portable toilets on fire.
Supporters of the Brazilian team Gremio should their support in all those ways and more this past weekend when their team faced archrival Internacional.
The match was halted twice while fans threw portable toilets into a moat which separates the field from the crowd and set them on fire, sending plumes of shit-smelling smoke over the pitch.
The fact that there is a moat that separates the crowd from the field tells you a thing or two about fans there.
Eventually fire brigade was called in to put out the fire and they were rewarded for their work by being pelted with objects thrown by the Gremio supporters. In return, police pelted the supporters with tear gas and order was eventually restored.
All of this sounds much more interesting than the scoreless draw that took place on the field under a cloud of toilet smelling smoke.
Here is a video of the fans at the match. Unfortunately it doesn’t capture the toilet madness, but it does show a bit of good old fashioned madness.

Amateurs. I light my toilet on fire every Tuesday.

You know, not ALL fans here are like that, if that’s what you’re going for. Just a handful of troublemakers that go to the stadium not to watch the match, but to get in trouble.
Anyway, as I said, it is a minority, as I also think that aggresive hooligans are a minority as well.
