Rogerio Ceni sets Record for Goals Scored by Keeper
By: Bob | August 21st, 2006
Our newest hero is Sao Paulo goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni, who broke Paraguayan legend Jose Luis Chilavert’s record for career goals scored while helping to lead his team to a 2-2 draw with Cruzeiro on Sunday.
Not only did Ceni stop a penalty kick in the game, but he also scored twice. A keeper scoring twice in a game! Think about that the next time your favorite striker is in front of the net and blows a bunny.
Ceni’s goals came on a thunderous free kick and a trademark penalty kick. He now has 64 goals for his career, which are approximately 64 more goals than most keepers will ever score in a lifetime.
This video, however, shows one goalkeeper who might want to forget about the time he scored a goal.

A classic video. Makes me laugh every time. Congrats to Rogerio. Almost makes up for losing the Libertadores final last week.

I’m a Sao Paulo’s supporter and we usually say here in Brazil: “Everybody has a goalkeeper, but only Sao Paulo has Rogerio Ceni!”.
