Ronaldo: Back, and Back Amongst the Goals

By: Daryl | March 9th, 2009

It’s official: Ronaldo (the original) is back. We know, he was back last week for a 20 minute jog. But he was never really back until he started scoring.

Which he did this weekend, with a 96th (thanks to UF for being dicks pointing out my mistake) 92nd minute header to pull Corinthians level 1-1 with rivals Palmeiras. Quite the celebration too, but if you’d come back from injury and scored after everyone said you were finished, you’d probably want to climb a fence too.

And Ronaldo wasn’t the only formerly injured Brazilian-born striker to score this weekend…

Here’s what Eduardo did against Burnley:

So think it’s safe to say his left leg is fully healed.

Coming from this biased Argie – Ronaldo deserves this. He deserves the celebration, he deserves the adolation, all of it. To come back from what he had to come back from . . . wow. Good for him!

Yeah, congrats to Ronaldo. But that Eduardo goal was otherworldly!

I agree that Ronaldo deserved it, and I’m glad to see him back, but I think the celebration was unwise. Exuberance is one thing, but he created a pretty dangerous-looking situation (after the fence begins to go at about the 50-second mark, I think I see one overzealous policeman swing a club). If you entice and even encourage fans to charge towards an unstable fence, it might have tragic consequences.

Good to see him back and amongst the goals. He still looks like he is carrying a lot of weight. I wonder if his weight issues may not be all due to laziness and perhaps in part to do with some kind of directive from physicians.
