Stripping Naked at a Bolivian Football Press Conference will get you Sacked

When you take classes on how to deal with the media you are usually given advice like “look directly into the camera”, “speak in short sound bite length sentences” and “whatever you do don’t decide that it would be a smart idea to start stripping naked in front of the cameras”. That last bit of advice would have come in handy for a football player in Bolivia who has been given his marching orders after he took off his clothes at a press conference as a joke.
Alex Da Rosa, a Brazilian midfielder who is a naturalized Bolivian citizen playing football for Blooming, explained his decision to expose his blooming onion: “We were just being guys, journalists and friends.”
He has a point. Every time I am with the guys and with friends and within sight of a television camera I know that my natural instinct is to shed my clothes. Still, you have to wonder what inspired his striptease act. What could have possibly led to this?
The incident came in the wake of TV cameras catching four of his players entering a bar and drinking until late at night in direct violation of team rules.
Hmmm, alcohol. You don’t say….
