Testing the Limits of Stupidity in Brazil

I challenge everyone to find their nearest 5 year old and ask this question: what happens when you shower fireworks with a blanket of thousands of little tiny bits of paper? They’ll probably answer “fire”, and they would be completely correct.

Unfortunately for Corinthians, 5 year olds weren’t running the Paulista championship celebration this weekend.

Someone decided that it would be okay to add sparklers to the basket/podium which was to be raised in the air with the trophy and then shoot out confetti.

Paper + fire = bigger fire.

And that’s precisely what happens to William and the Corinthians suits as they’re lofting the trophy for the supporters to see. Luckily it does look a great deal worse than it was – William appears to be completely engulfed by flames but he’s reportedly alright – but it never should’ve happened. And definitely wouldn’t have if they had someone running things with an IQ higher than π.

And it’s a shame, because this is big for Corinthians – really big. It’s largely a secondary tournament but after being being embarrassingly relegated just 18 months ago, any trophy is a big trophy. (Particularly that Ronaldo guy.) And that’s probably why they don’t stop celebrating despite the fact that their teammate and club president just went up in flames.

What makes this all worse is the fact that they are in an enclosed space 20 feet off the ground.

Just imagine if CRonaldo and his liters of flammable gel had been in that lift.
