The First Ever Game On Easter Island
By: chris | August 6th, 2009If we were to rank games on a “coolness scale”, this would be right at the top. Chilean big boys Colo Colo flew miles and miles over the ocean to take on locals Rapa-Nui in…the title of this post. Well, technically. This is the first “official” game, as part of the Chilean Cup – with first timers apparently given initiation by fire.
As you might expect, the locals of Easter Island aren’t very good, hence the 4-0 loss – one which surely would’ve been more were the islanders to travel to the mainland rather than the other way ’round. But from this historic game we discover football needs two things:
i. Fewer 2200 mile over-ocean commutes.
ii. More tribal dances to kick off the games.
