The Old Unplugging-the-Fax-so-a-Suspended-Player-Can-Play Trick Works Again
By: Bob | September 18th, 2006
It is always a heated affair when Bolivar meets The Strongest in the La Paz derby in the Bolivian league. The two teams squared off this weekend for the 150th time in a game that was mired in controversy.
Bolivar forward Martin Menacho scored the game’s lone goal despite being suspended by the league before the match because he was sent off in a previous match. Bolivar claims that they didn’t receive notification of the suspension, an excuse that The Strongest club director Jorge Pacheco thinks is The Weakest.
“We all know there are ways of getting around this, as a last resort they could have disconnected their fax,” he said, adding that his team will launch a protest.
As for the player in question, Menacho showed that he is all class by getting sent off two minutes after scoring the goal because he taunted The Strongest coach Rolando Chilavert. Bolivar is likely to keep its fax machines unplugged while the league decides whether Menacho’s latest send off is worthy of an additional suspension.
