The Strongest Wuz Robbed
By: Bob | August 14th, 2006
With all the new travel restrictions, we couldn’t make it to Bolivia this weekend to watch our adopted team for the week The Strongest play against defending champion Bolivar. We’d never fly without a bottle of Jack Daniels sitting in the passenger seat next to us.
Even without the benefit of watching the game in person or on television, we can tell you that the fix was in and The Strongest had victory snatched away from them by a referee who fears all things strong.
The Guardian’s description of what went down in La Paz:
Defending champions Bolivar snatched a late equaliser to draw 1-1 with local rivals The Strongest in La Paz when Limberg Gutierrez fired home a controversially awarded free kick.
The Strongest, who took an early lead through Victor Godoy, also had a goal disallowed in the second half.
The outrage! It is a good thing we were only The Strongest fans for one match or we would seriously consider being upset.
For those scoring at home, and really this is something you should start doing, The Offside’s Fan for Match record is now 1 tie and 1 loss.
We’ll make our selection for this week’s Fan for a Match team on Thursday so if you want us to back your team (or perhaps your rival team since our team is likely to never win) than shoot us an email at bob [at] theoffside.com.
