How Elrio van Heerden Saved South Africa

By: Daryl | January 24th, 2008

Every morning we try and bring you the best goal from yesterday’s Africa Cup of Nations action. Yesterday it was tough to choose. Both Tunisia’s goals against Senegal were pretty special (you can see them here) but Elrio van Heerden’s goal for South Africa (above) finally won out. South Africa were 1-0 down to Angola with two minutes to go, when Van Heerden - on as a sub for the more famous Steven Pienaar - picked up the ball, went past a man and then hit this left footed curler to give South Africa the equaliser they deserved.

[the original video was deleted by the internet police (boo!) but this video has Manucho's header for Angola and Van Heerden's goal]
