Champions League Group Stage Draw
By: Daryl | August 28th, 2008
It’s the draw for the Champions League groups stages today, featuring all the big teams like Man Utd, Real Madrid, AS Roma and, er, FC BATE Borisov.
We have a LiveBlog of the draw for you on Champions League Offside so head over there now to see who’s going to be playing who this season.
…
Here are those groups, lovingly cut and pasted from Rob’s LiveBlog:
Group A
Chelsea
Roma
Bordeaux
Cluj
Group B
Inter
Werder Bremen
panathinaikos
Anorthosis Famagusta
Group C
Barcelona
Sporting Lisbon
FC Basel
Shaktar
Group D
Liverpool
PSV
Marseille
Atletico Madrid
Group E
Manchester United
Villareal
Celtic
Aalborg
Group F
Lyon
Bayern
Steaua
Fiorentina
Group G
Arsenal
Porto
Fenerbahce
Dinamo Kiev
Group H
Real Madrid
Juventus
Zenit St Petersburg
BATE
Hard to pick a real group of death, though I’d say Group D – Liverpool, PSV, Marseille, Atletico Madrid – comes closest just because they got the best team from Pot IV in Atletico Madrid. Potentially any of those teams could go through.
And BATE were always going to be up against it, but at least they’ll get to visit the Bernabéu and the Stadio Olimpico.

I’d say group D looks like the toughest all around. Which has to be a bit discouraging if you’re a fan of the Atleti.

Or a fan of Marseille. Oh, right, that’s me.

Group F is not exactly an easy one either. That would be Lyon’s group.

And poor Bordeaux, with Chelsea AND Roma. What a reward for doing well last year.

Any Cluj 1907 fans around – or do they come out once the Sun goes down?
