Champions League QFs 2nd Leg Wednesday LiveBlogs: Arsenal vs Villarreal & Porto vs Man Utd
By: Daryl | April 15th, 2009
That to your left is a knife edge (or at least the best image of a knife edge I could find at short notice). And today’s Champions League quarterfinal games are on it.
Arsenal host Villarreal with a slim away goal advantage. The 1-1 draw at El Madrigal last week means Arsene Wenger’s men could go through with a 0-0 draw. Luckily for neutrals, Wenger isn’t keen on that plan: “I don’t believe that we are a team who can play for 0-0,” he says. “That’s not our natural way.”
And with Almunia, Gallas, Djouror and Clichy all out, attack might literally be the best form of defence tonight.
Meanwhile at the Estádio do Dragão, Porto will be trying to do, well, a Porto. After an excellent 2-2 draw vs Man Utd at Old Trafford, they can also look to away goals, and hope that the Man Utd defence is still terrified of Hulk. Amazing what a name change can do for your reputation.
Meanwhile the Porto defence will be terrified of Bruno Alves, whose backpass supplied the ammunition for Rooney last time out. But if Alves decides to stick to defending then it will be all about Cristiano Ronaldo. How will he react to being benched vs Sunderland at the weekend? Defiant comeback or Incredible Sulk? We’ll find out soon enough.
