Champions League Semi-Final: Barcelona vs Chelsea 1st Leg LiveBlog

By: Daryl | April 28th, 2009

You know a game is big when it gets four previews on The Offside.

On Barça Offside, Kevin gives us a nice run down of the key player match-ups and also singles out “our very own translucent gem of a midfielder, Andres Iniesta.”

Jack agrees on Chelsea Offside, arguing that stopping Iniesta and Xavi is more important than worrying about Messi (who may be unstoppable anyway.) And he’s backing Chelsea’s aerial prowess (read: Drogba) to cause trouble for Barça’s back four.

On Champions League Offside, Sam highlights the backwards footed match up between a left footed Leo Messi playing wide right for Barça and the right footed Bosingwa likely marking him at left back.

Finally, Chris summed up the whole thing here on the front page as Barça vs Guus: An Unstoppable Force Meets an Immovable Object. If you’ve got predictions, leave them in the comments on that post.

But enough with the previews, it’s nearly gametime…

We’ve got a CiL LiveBlog from Sam and Rob of Champion League Offside.

MOTM performance from Cech in my opinion.

And boy did he need it!

Cech constantly looked nervous but he did what was needed. The whole Chelsea defence should have a collective MotM to be honest.

I agree with Wayne… he had a couple of very key saves for chelsea, and he seemed much more assured in the back than he did against Liverpool… perhaps that penalty save he made against Mark Noble on Saturday has helped him remember that he was once one of the best keepers in the world…

Never knew that Guus would do a Fat Sam impression with his team … it was like watching Bolton/Blackburn/Sunderland vs Arsenal at the Emirates; Chelski’s bunch of overpaid **** PARKING THE BUS. The Chelsea owner would be so proud of this performance. This surely got to be most boring match with Barca involved this season.Staying awake till 2:30 am in night to see this dross served …. urrrrrrgggggghhhhhh.
