Finally, the Champions League is Back
By: Bob | August 8th, 2006
It doesn’t seem that long ago that Barcelona defeated Arsenal in the final of the Champions League on a rainy spring night in Paris because it wasn’t that long ago, a little more than 2 months ago to be precise.
Today marks the return of the Champions League. Yes, we know that two rounds in the competition have already been played, but the third round is when big-name teams like Arsenal, AC Milan and Rabotnicki Kometal join in the fun and when we start paying attention.
There are a pair of matches today with Vienna taking on Benefica and Dinamo Zagreb playing host to Arsenal. It is Arsenal that is dominating the news headlines with the talk of Ashley Cole departing, the possible signing of Franck Ribery and the continuing uncertainty about Jose Antonio Reyes. As usual, the Arseblog has his all covered.
If you are stuck at work or in area where you can’t watch the game on the telly, our favorite Chinese pirates via Israel are kindly bootlegging the game online here. You can also check out the friendly between Oxford City and Manchester United, which could mark the return of Cristiano Ronaldo to English soil. We suspect he’ll be greeted with tea and crumpets.
