Inter 2-0 Bayern Munich – Champions League Final Highlights
By: Daryl | May 22nd, 2010
The Champions League final maybe wasn’t the most entertaining game of football. But it did feature a near perfect example of how to play centre forward from Diego Milito, and an even closer to perfect example of how to control a big event from Jose Mourinho.
From the first press conference to the final whistle, the Inter coach was pulling all the levers in Madrid. His 4-2-1-3 formation might have given Bayern 69% possession, but it also held them at bay while creating more than enough chances for Inter to win the game.
Video of Milito’s two excellently taken goals below…
Milito wins the header and directs the ball to Sneijder, but he also keeps moving to gives Demichelis the slip, and then there’s just enough of a feint to confuse Butt befoe Milito fires home.
Milto embarrassed Van Buyten for the second goal with a simple cut to change direction, and then another confident finish.
Bayern put up a decent fight, but for my money they looked too reliant on Arjen Robben (every pass seemed to go for the right wing) and a little impotent up front, with neither Ivica Olic nor Thomas Mueller looking likely goalscorers.
So congratulations to Inter on their first Champions League/European Cup since 1965, congratulations to Samuel Eto’o on consecutive Champions League wins with two different teams (and his third win overall) and congratulations to Jose Mourinho, who now joins Ernst Happel and Otmar Hitzfeld on the list of managers to win the grand European prize with more than one club.
