Lionel Messi & Andres Iniesta Celebrate With Beverages. And Lollipops.

By: chris | May 30th, 2009

I’d say if we were to rank the occasions where it’s perfectly acceptable to get belligerently drunk, the ceremony just after you’ve won the Champions League final is somewhere around the Top 5. (We must pray for the sake of the London police that this Tottenham squad never wins the continent’s title.)

So Lionel Messi and Andres Iniesta did just that at the Barcelona celebration, as evidenced by their headwear, stammering on in Spanish I wouldn’t have understood even if they were sober (that’s my not-so-subtle plea for a translation). But easily the best part is when Lionel wanders around the bus looking for a) a giant lollipop, b) a hug, or c) both. (post-jump)

They are all speaking in Catalan. Guardiola’s a native, so I can’t help you there, other than he says “Long live Barca and long live Catalunya” at the end.

Iniesta is from Castila La Mancha, a lot closer to Madrid than Barcelona, so he’s more easy to understand- “These cups are just the beginning. If you all want more, then this will continue for many years.”

Messi’s kinda hard to hear from the audio, but he does say “we’re going to win it all” and then “thank you all for everything, viva Barca, viva Catalunya.”
