Photo of the Day: Unfamiliar Agony

I know this doesn’t look like Manchester United’s goalscoring machine, Cristiano Ronaldo. Perhaps that’s because, up to this moment, we were unfamiliar with how he looks when he misses a penalty?

The normally ultra-reliable shooter had a chance to blow the game wide open in the third minute when Barcelona’s Gabriel Milito had a handball in the box. Fortunately for Barcelona, he sent it wide instead. (For a photo of the actual penalty miss, visit our Cristiano Ronaldo Offside blog.)

Barcelona dominated the game with 65% of possession, but they were unable to score either.

Next week the teams head for the second leg at Old Trafford, where neutrals are hoping to see some goals, and where ManU fans are hoping that they won’t see this particularly face on CR7.

I jumped up to yell, and even spilled a bit of my beer in the process, but then I realized and just kind of sat down slowly.

    A dark day for CR7.

I wouldn´t say Barça dominated. They had 64% possession but they never really troubled van der Sar. Man Utd played in counter - which is also when they´re more dangerous. Also didn´t really want to risk too much. Substituted Rooney, the only striker, although with several forwards on the pitch. Both teams shiting their pants.

Uninspired game for CR, first penalty he misses (sooner or later all the great players miss penalties, no matter all the theories and he did score the crucial against Arsenal and also ENG in his first world cup), but I might be wrong. Always a leg in his legs. Protested too much. I guess he was pissed off…

0-0 in NouCacmp, in the champs semis is hardly a poor result. Would very surprised if in Old Trafford we see the same cure for insomnia… But we might still see both teams playing as if the big bad wolf´s comming after them. I hope not.

The fans chose Messi for player of the match, I´d say Deco was the man. But I´m portuguese, so I might be biased…

With that picture, I´m gonna replace my Virgin Mary T-shirt for this one… 8)

Pedro, Not sure what game you watched.

    Barca did everything but score.

Man U was even schooled by Tommy Smtyh. Who has his head so far up Fergies ass its brown.

I would have picked Deco over Messi also.

Sorry, I don´t think Barça were that good. I wouldn´t say they were bad. They played possession but c´mon, it was the least they HAD TO DO… They were home, in the semis, trying to rescue a season. They tried a lot, true. But they were never really dangerous. If they do the same in OT, OK, it´s a differemt story. I also feel MU were chikens tonight. I also feel Barça were the better team but not that they dominated. I also feel it was a good cure for insomnia. Actually, I just woke up a couple of minutes ago… ;-)

I thought Yaya Toure had a good game. Amazing how ManU could hardly get forward at all.
