Ronaldo Gets the Laser Treatment

If you haven’t heard already, Cristiano Ronaldo was targeted by a Lyon fan with one of those lame laser pens before last night’s Champions League match. Ronaldo went on to have a fairly quiet game, especially by his own insanely high standards, and now Manchester United officials are urging UEFA to take action.

There are reports that Ronaldo was “left dazzled” by the beam, as if it had melted his brain. I’m sure it was annoying, but lets get all this in perspective. A quick flash from a commercially available laser pen held by a (possibly) drunken Lyon fan isn’t going to erase all those stepovers from C-Ron’s memory banks. It’s just going to irritate him a bit. This isn’t the future.

C-Ron isn’t the first famous footballer to get the laser treatment either, it happened to Didier Drogba back in 2007. It might just be part of being a super-famous footballer now. And while I’m sure it’s unpleasant, and I’m very sure the fans doing it are immature, those low power lasers would have to be aimed directly into your eyeball, with a fully dilated pupil, for a full minute to do any damage at all. So there’s really nothing to worry about, especially because no one has ever seen Ronaldo stand still for that long.

I just got in from work, turned on SSN (Sky Sports News) and one of the presenters volunteered to be 'lasered,' he said not 15mins ago, that his eyes are still seeing a redness of some description. He would have started his 'shift' at about 1pm UK time.
