The Darwin Awards Come To Lisbon
By: chris | August 19th, 2009You know that rule which states that if you take off your shirt for a yellow it’s an automatic, non-negotiable yellow? Of course you do, and the great lot of you probably aren’t professional footballers.
Simon Vukcevic either forgot that he was sitting on a yellow or has an IQ of 1, which would also be the highest he can count. The scene is fairly obvious: Vukcevic scores, takes off shirt, gets a second yellow, final score is 2-2 with Fiorentina netting a precious second away goal late.
I don’t know too many who are fans of this ridiculous rule, but if a player is stupid enough to take off his shirt while sitting on a yellow, he deserves everything the ref can possibly hand down.

Some of these “acts” are “misdemeanors” and they don’t warrant a yellow card. In most common law legal systems, many misdemeanors are punished with monetary fines. Usually only repeat misdemeanor offenders are punished by actual jail time (red card).

I like how he watches the ref pull out the yellow, then seems confused as to why the red follows. Maybe he knew he’d get a yellow, but serious believes three yellows equal a red.

I guess he had somewhere else to be next Wednesday. Either that, or he’s trying to avoid Italy.

I love it when the Portuguese announcers switch to Italian, and start telling him “bye-bye.”
