Meet The FIFA 08 Offside Cup Champion, Anders Skov Klausen!
By: Dave Martinez | May 22nd, 2008
The FIFA 08 Offside Cup has been nearly three months of grueling competition. Invitees from TheOffside community matched wit and skill for Online Community bragging rights (and an Offsides t-shirt!). Over 60 unique players in total submitted their name and team for this tournament. But only one person was able to beat the odds.
And he is from Denmark.
Ladies and Gentlemen, I give you your FIFA 08 Offside Cup Champion, ANDERS SKOV KLAUSEN!
Whats your name?
Anders Skov Klausen
Where are you from?
Denmark
Nationality?
Danish
Do you have a FIFA world ranking?
My leaderboard ranking is approx. number 600 world ranked. I’m ranked as nr. 2 on the Xbox live rankings for Denmark.
What is your online gamer rating?
23
Your screenname is Roven. What the hell does that mean anyway?
Don’t have a specific meaning, was a name i created as i started playing world of warcraft a long time ago, since then I have just used that as my gamer name.
Whats your favorite club?
In Denmark its F.C. Copenhagen, worldwide - Barcelona.
Favorite national team?
Brazil - mostly because its a 100 % technically good team with star players as Ronaldinho, Kaka and Robinho.
Who is your favorite player?
Ronaldinho or C. Ronaldo. Both fantastic players as they have a technical way of playing football that very few players worldwide has.
Why did you pick Barcelona for this tourney?
2 reasons. 1) Generally the best team in the game 2) My favourite team (worldwide).
What was the first FIFA game you ever purchased?
FIFA 97 or 98 - long time ago
Who has been your toughest opponent this tourney? My toughest opponent in this tourney was without a doubt Roma. We were in group together and had a fantastic game. To be honest it could go either way, I think both me and Roma had 2 or 3 shots on the bar/posts. It was so even that the deciding goal first game at the approx. 94th min.
Best player on your squad?
Ronaldinho - I have build my play up through Ronaldinho so that all the attacking play goes through him. Therefore he is also the MVP of my team. The MVP title could also have gone to Puyol tho, since he is a awesome defending player.
Starting XI and formation:
XI:
4-4-2:
Defence: Zambrotta, Puyol, Militio, Abidal
Mid: Messi, Iniesta, Yaya Toure, Ronaldinho
Forwards: Eto, Henry4-3-1-2:
Defence: Zambrotta, Puyol, Militio, Abidal
Mid: Messi, Toure, Iniesta
Attacking mid: Ronaldinho
Forwards: Eto, Henry4-3-3
Defence: Zambrotta, Puyol, Militio, Abidal
Mid: Messi, Toure, Iniesta
Forwards: Eto, Henry, RonaldinhoAbout the formation: I usually start with a 4-4-2 formation as i want to start the game as neutral in comparison of attack and defence. If I get in front ill keep the formation as it is. If I get behind as I did against Fiorentina, actually 0-2 after first half, i switch to either 4-3-1-2 or 4-3-3 (depends on which team im against, for example if they have bad LB and RB i run with 4-3-3 to match them there, in the other way around i use 4-3-1-2 if they they have bad centers at the defense.
A general message to everyone?
I would just like to thank all the participants, it has been a great tourney - well played everyone. Of course also a thanks to Dave because he were willing to offer so much of his time to set up this tourney and so on.
Nice to have such a gracious winner! Besides this write up, and a featured article on the Video Games Blog, Anders will also be receiving an Offsides T-Shirt.
Thank you to everyone for participating! We look forward to seeing more of you at our next tourney - tentatively scheduled in about 3 weeks - The Offsides Euro 2008 Cup. Stay Tuned to the Video Games Blog for more.

I’m not surprised he won as Barcelona…Any no skill player can pick Barca and win It’s that simple…I’m not doubting his abilities I’m sure he this Roven guy is really good, but i’m just stating a fact…Mostly noobs with no skill pick either Barcelona or Manchester United…

Oh, PhOBoLus, if I see another assclown start on a team like Birmingham and then once I pick a comparable team fly over to United one more time I might throw my controller through my TV. If anyone who plays is reading this: STOP PICKING UNITED, IT’S NOT FUN!

Agreed Greg…I start off at Chelsea, but if they choose anyone other than Manchester United or Barcelona, I switch to the team that my opponent played or will play in real life…

lol - I agree with Greg and PhoBo!
If you read my gamertag, it says No Barce or Man U. And I mean it. I automatically change the screen when I have them as an opponent.
But Roven is #2 Ranked in his COUNTRY, and 600th in the world. The kid is no scrub, and he actually LIKES Barcelona, which is a major difference between him and noobie jerks who pick them for the speed and overpowering attack

I see the haters are out in full force today… nothing better to do since Ronaldo scored yesterday?

Actually, I like Barce ALOT in real life. man U has tevez so i cant hate. Its just in the video game for me. They are WAY too powerful.

no haters as far as I can see paul. its not a matter of liking or disliking a team in real life. its more a matter of people being n00btastic and cheap. picking manu is both. were you referring to the pk he scored btw?

The fact that Barcelona are one of the better teams on the game and he won with it probably means that if you are planning off-sides cup 2 and he signs on it would be best if he had to use a different team. Would be interesting to see how he does with Copenhagen. Maybe even requiring no repeats for everyone (or everyone who made it out of the group stage). Or retire Barcelona completely for the next few tournaments. Just a few suggestions, if you aren’t burned out.

I am all for it man. I just got the UEFA game too. I may run simultaneous tourneys. Who knows.
I will definitely be doing a UEFA tourney based on the real life tourney - thats for damn sure.
But for FIFA? I would want something possibly smaller, with more game. Like a single table, 14 team MLS tournament. Or an even larger EPL or La Liga one. Who knows. Any ideas?

Dave, how about another FIFA tourney for other platforms, say the Wii?

well…retiring barcelona is not cool either, i mean, i used sao paulo in the tourney, but if you are the best then you should be able to beat barcelona or manU, even if just having that team gives the player a great advantage…
