Is Spurs’ Heurelho Gomes Just a Brazilian Paul Robinson?

By: Daryl | October 23rd, 2008

Didn’t Tottenham Hotspur replace Paul Robinson because he was prone to horrendous gaffes? If so, were any of them worse than today’s UEFA Cup shocker from Spurs’ current keeper Heurelho Gomes?

The first touch was bad enough, but Gomes at least recovers in time. The smart thing at that point would have been to just boot it clear. Not to try – and more importantly fail – to beat Fabio Quagliarella with a shimmy and lose the ball (and why do Brazilian keepers all suddenly seem to think they should playing outfield?)

To be fair to Gomes, Quagliarella actually goes down a little too easily. But he did make contact, so Gomes has no one to blame but himself. Udinese won the game 2-0.

what an idiotic suggestion, only fools that dont know football would agree with this. Didnt u see the saves he pulled off afterwards. The guy is class, but prone to make errors sometimes like any human. Whereas Robbo is just a fat pig

“Gosh, Daryl, why didn’t you tell us your mom was a tranny? ”

I’m more shocked that he didn’t tell us that he’s a fool who doesn’t know football.

So if your mother is a tranny, does that mean that you have a mother who transitioned to become a man after she had you, or was it your father that transitioned?

Either way, that takes a lot of courage and I respect him/her for it.

(Also, why is it that every time on any site someone insults Spurs the comments are really sophomoric?)

I’m an Arsenal fan so dislike Spurs but i’ve got to say that Gomes is a great keeper. He was amazing for PSV and virtually knocked Arsenal out of the Champs League single handed a few years back. I think he’s probably one of the best in the world as well as being a big personality who can inspire confidence in defenders. Once Spurs get their season going he’ll be great for them. Paul Robinson was a good keeper as well but never recovered from getting his confidence shredded.

Maybe the spurs players are closet financial bankers — jittery idiots.

Even outside of Tottenham knew a year ago that Gomes was worse than Robinson. No surprise that this was a clear downgrade from day one.

I think he’s still a step up from Robinson, because even when Robinson focuses he’s nothing special. However Gomes is hardly one of the best keepers in the world, he’s no Almunia that’s for sure. ;)

Gomes was brilliantwhen he played for PSV. He really won the last PSV championchip on his own.
By the way, when Gomes started at PSV, he also made some mistakes, but after that, he became one of the best keepers in Europe.

So, be patient :) (i think)
