John Carew Treated for “Fatigue.” Because Lap Dances Can Do That to a Person
By: Laurie | October 25th, 2008
Poor John Carew. The Aston Villa striker has been suffering from “fatigue” lately. It’s been so bad that the team docs have had him submit to blood tests. So bad that he missed Thursday’s UEFA Cup match with Ajax due to “illness.”
Poor, poor boy. Although it would be a lot easier to feel sorry for him if he hadn’t reportedly been spotted in the wee hours the night before the game in a “gentlemen’s club.” With a “female companion” he apparently brought with him.
(Because I know that was always my first choice of date locale.)
But Villa season-ticket holder Mike McKiernen, a businessman from Staffordshire, claims he spotted the star in The Rocket Club at 1am on Thursday morning.
“He must have realised that visiting a bar late at night in the city’s main entertainment area just hours before a big game was not the wisest move,” Mr McKiernen said. “He is the city’s tallest footballer and so recognisable.”
“Villa season ticket-holder Mike McKiernan” must be single? Or at least he is now.
And the story of Carew’s omission from the roster for Thursday’s game?
Villa maintain Carew’s omission against Ajax was due to the forward having tests for a bug which have since proved negative. But the Norwegian international did not know on Wednesday night that he definitely wouldn’t be needed by O’Neill … the following day.
Villa rules state players are expected to be home by 11pm the evening before a game and club officials have launched a probe.
And now John faces a possible fine of £52,000 (or one week’s pay) for violation of team rules.
As my co-blogger Chris says: “Legs n’eggs will do that to you. You can quote me on that.”

Oh, Marco, of course not. I’m merely using them to show direct quotes, of course.
Although I must admit that I’ve always found the euphemism “gentlemen’s club” rather humorous.
