The Unrelenting Brilliance of Mad Jens

By: chris | February 19th, 2009

Someone needs to pen a tribute to Jens imploring him to stay in football forever and ever. His mere presence is enough entertainment to fill two games – though having said that I’ve never been a fan of a team he’s played for, which is an entirely different prospect.

During last night’s loss to UEFA Cup defending champs Zenit in the frozen tundra of St. Petersburg, Jens had a moment reserved for Mad Jens and Mad Jens alone. He found Khalid Boulahrouz’s headband so offensive that he ripped it off and fired it at the frightened ball boys, who may or may not have wet their pants at the sight of Mr. Hyde.

Why did Jens remove the headband? Your guess is probably as good as his. But there’s certainly only one man alive with the gumption to do such a thing to a guy nicknamed “Khalid the Cannibal”.

  • Heading the ball with a headband cushions the hit... maybe Khalid missed one head clearance too many.

The other possibility of course is that Jens Lehmann just lost the last one of his marbles.
