Deadline Day approaching – Jenas to Inter? Really?
By: Rob | August 30th, 2009
A fair bit of activity flying around as deadline day appoaches for the big European Clubs. There’s usually a couple of big surprising moves on the last day, and while I wouldn’t expect anything quite like last season’s deadline day, I suspect a few people will be changing clubs at the last minute.
One man who almost certainly will be is bloggers (and commentators) nightmare Dmytro Chygrynskiy, who is in Barcelona to finalise his £22m move from Shakhtar. Good move from Pep I’d say – despite the quality, Barca’s squad looks a little light numbers wise, especially in an African Cup of Nations season.
Elsewhere and apparently Harry Redknapp is so desperate to be reunited with Inter midfielder Sully Muntari, he’s willing to offer £5m plus one of his prize assests in the shape of…er…Jermaine Jenas. I wonder how José Mourinho will react to that…
Everton are looking to replace Lescott with Johnny Heitinga, which for me is a very good move – speaking as someone who has repeatedly bought the Dutch defender on Football Manager.
Fiorentina have apparently made a bit for England defender Matthew Upson, according to Eurosport. Most of the Premier League has been batting their eyes at Upson, so it’d be interesting to see him go abroad.
Sven’s Notts County revolution gathers apace, according to Tabloid land as apparently they are going to buy Freddie Ljungburg (currently residing out in the USofA) and Christian Vieri. Probably not, but it would be crazy to see them along with Sol Campbell in the lower leagues.
Roma, who have financial issues seem to have come up with a credit-crunching plan. To sign Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink from Celtic, and then watch as the cash rolls in as fans have to stump up a fortune to have his absurd name on their shirts.
Speaking of Roma, they’ll be familiar with Jan Novak who is apparently going to go to their Europa League rivals Fulham, after not quite destroying them with Kosice in the playoff round.
It almost certainly won’t go through this window, but Barcelona are still writing love sonnets to Cesc Fabregas, this time describing the Catalan Kid as “A special case“. That’s so beautiful.
And finally those Franck Ribery to Spain rumours won’t go away. So I won’t mention them again here.
