I just realized we didnt’ do any follow-up on this page on the US-Mexico friendly. Let’s fix that, shall we?

Did anybody else find the 2-2 draw between the US and Mexico to be a hugely entertaining game? Not a “friendly” by any stretch of the imagination, but hard-fought and well-played on both sides.

Don’t hate me for saying this, but last year in the February friendly, even though the US won 2-0, I thought they got outplayed. This year I didn’t think that. (Or at least I didn’t spend the whole game thinking that.) I watched US kids like Jozy Altidore step up to the plate and get the job done alongside the big boys, and…

Well, what can I say? The game made me want to dress up in red, white and blue and holler USA! USA! USA! (And I am NOT a red-white-and-blue kind gal).

I just went back and reread what I wrote. Wow, that's really gushy, isn't it? It also doesn't quite capture what I feel. What I found myself thinking after the game wasn't, "The US dominated." Because even the most optimistic person couldn't say that.

It was more along the lines of, "I'm now seeing the potential for the US to dominate, at some time in the future." I saw moments that could be combined and added to, to create a full game of flowing, attacking, winning play. It left me hopeful for what's yet to come.

(And I'm sorry. Posts like this are what happen when I'm hurrying to get something written so I can go watch the African Cup of Nations final. Won't happen again. Hope you enjoyed the videos anyway.) :-)

Mexico completely outplayed the US. The US only got the ball across the field through passing, while Mexican players sliced through opponents half of the time (especially Salcido, a defender) and played without being nervous and pressured like they always do in these games. I personally think both teams got lucky, like when Dempsey's goal wasn't counted, and the fact that the US didn't get scored on in the last 20 or so minutes when Mexico was on fire. Both teams have great potential, but the US will have no shot if this Mexican squad is better than it already is.

i really think that mexico did play alot better than the US...if it wasnt for tim howard making great saves (i was hating him for a while) usually donovan has played better against mexico in the past but donovan was nowhere to b found except for the 1st goal when he just crossed it..but mexico really had me on the edge of my seat...

I could not have picked a better crop of scorers for the US of A, my favorite USMNT player Onyewu (because he used to play for Clemson University in South Carolina, my hometown)and Jozy Altidore on his starting debut, because i watched the u-21 world cup and really like him, and becaue it's good to know what's coming up for the future USMNT.

Jay is right, Mexico pretty much played with our midfield, and it was more luck than anything we didn't lose. Our defense was also asleep or something, Mexico got like 20 shots at us. I don't think we played better than mexico, i thnk we have a lot of improvement to undergo and i don't think its time for praise.

I have to disagree with you Laurie, did you look at our midfield this game. It was non existent. The second half was even worse, how many shots on goal did we get 1 or 2?
