The Football vs. Soccer debate, I love the US but the passion for this game inside me wants to turn the country over and start a revolution. So, yes I agree with all comments in support of "Football" cause thats what it is. But, how can we change this - it will be a battle but, one I am willing to help with the charge. I have to call my own blog a soccer blog in order to get recognized in the US and search enginges. I'm interested to hear others thoughts.

On another note, re: ESPN, man they are terrible for Real football coverage. The camera men are clueless and have a hard time following real progressive action. Since there are no breaks for the players to huddle and have someone tell them what to do every 10 seconds, I guess the camera men are used to breaks to cover crowd reaction and color commentating. ESPN really needs to get stuck in if they have a chance of capturing a larger audience.

Re: the general media, what a stupid spectacle. It's cool Becks is here and happy for him and what he maybe able to do for the game in the US but, jeez the photographers were a bit overboard.

just my thoughts...cheers - jason

Wouldn't have that problem if we just called 'American Football', yep you guessed it, 'American Football'.

I was rolling when the commentator called Beckham one of the world's best all-time footballers. hahahahaha...what a riot.

Americans can't call it football because of American Football. The NFL has far more fans than the MLS and calling soccer "football" will just confuse everyone. So it's not really a choice we have.

Actually soccer is a 100% legitimate shorthand for the formal association football. Football is also an appropriate shorthand for the formal name association football. Both shorthands came from England at approximately the same time. Soccer is recognizable as exactly the same game for most people with an IQ above 30. If you are going to insist on propriety you must never forget the 'association' in front of it. And if you really think that calling it soccer is unacceptable you should also start yelling at every Italian who dares call it calcio. If you aren't prepared to take your snobbery and condecension there as well, shut up.

The MLS may still be a joke to the rest of the world but some of these teams are hundreds of years old. We're not bad for how young we are!

Donovan can do some nice crosses and corner kicks. He's also a great penalty kick taker, a good runner, and a good shooter. He's tied with Cobi for the most goals on the team (4) and has the most assists (6). Although he's a forward, I think recently he's sort of taken a midfield position to help out his teammates.

when wynalda was talking about landon donovan trying to tell beckham that he was gonna take some of the kicks...you could just picture the smirks on all of their faces (beckham included) about landon donovan wishing he was in the same class.

that guy's a nobody. he'd be lucky to be on the training squad of a premiership team

Despite the lopsided shots stats, I thought LA played a relatively good first half. I thought Kyle Martino looked especially good.
Drew Cary is a soccer fan's fan. I think he demonstrated all our frustrations whenever ESPN cuts to their commentator on the sideline, or some phone interview, or anything else they'll do to avoid showing the action on the field.
