10 Things We Learned From The F.A. Cup Final
By: Daryl | May 19th, 2007
The first FA Cup Final at New Wembley. Quite the big occasion, and plenty pomp and circumstance to go around, including that RAF fleet of fighter jets flying over just before kick off.
A slow first 20 minutes turned into a pretty exciting game, especially the second half and extra time. All in all a tight affair, and as with the Premiership that wasn’t all that much to choose between the two teams. But Drogba’s nice little exchange with Lampard and deft finish past van der Saar were enough to win it, and save everyone from the agony of penalties.
Here are 10 Things We Learned while watching the 2007 FA Cup Final:
1) Jose Mourinho’s dog Gullit was not hiding in the F.A. Cup after all.
2) New Wembley was worth the wait.
3) Cristiano Ronaldo isn’t always fantastic.
4) You need good eyes to be a linesman. There were a couple of offsides where I shouted “no way!” but the replays always vindicated the man with the flag.
5) Chelsea really don’t need Sheva or Ballack.
6) Arjen Robben’s injury problems must be pretty bad. He came on as a sub and then had to come off.
7) You cant push the keeper over the line Ryan Giggs. Nice try though.
Jose Mourinho has won everything possible in English and Portuguese footy. Impressive.
9) SAF has already won everything in England and a bag of chips, but he still wanted that trophy today. Equally impressive.
10) All respect to OGS and Alan Smith, but Man Utd probably need another quality striker to compliment Rooney.

Like the list.
It was definatly worth the wait, but a shame the pitch was starting to cut up. Also have to agree with the fact United need an extra striker. I was suprised that given Chelseas defensive problems United went one man up front.

Wembley is impressive. Escalators up to your seats, easy access out of the stadium. Private cubicles in the mens toilets. Fantastic unobstructed view of the game, where you can study (if you want to, the formations of both teams) an ultimately if you are a Chelsea fan a FANTASTIC day turned a WONDERFUL season into a FANTASTIC season!!

Obviously Chris you have no idea about the history of the FA Cup – has nothing to do with the Champions League for a start!!

No, it does not. And neither do Chelsea.

I believe that was sarcasm.

I believe Chris was trying to be a smartarse about these two teams being left out of the Champion’s league final. Either way, great season for both sides but in the end…

Honestly, I watched as a neutral and found it pretty exciting. Drank a lot of coffee before kick off though, so could be wrong.

Was the coffee spiked with LSD?

Didn’t make it myself, so I guess that’s possible. It’s also about expectations. Have seen so many disappointingly cagey finals down the years that I expected a dull game, so was grateful for the action. Will go into Wednesday’s game with the same attitude, but also order my coffee from the same place just to make sure.
