15,000-km Road Trip Earns a Win and New Wheels for Zenit Fans

By: Bob | October 4th, 2006

car.jpgBack in the day, we took some ridiculous road trips to support out local team, but all the trips combined probably don’t add up to the epic journey made by three fans of the Russian team Zenit last month. The three hearty souls packed themselves into a Honda Civic and drove clear across Russia – 15,000 km one way – to watch their side beat our former Fan for a Match team Luch Energiya.

If you have ever spent any time on just about any road in Russia, you know that the roadways make the surface of the moon look smooth in comparison. We’re still dealing with the back pain caused by a mere two-hour ride through Russia in 1996 so we can only imagine what the Zenit fans feel like today.

Whatever pain and misery they experienced has been minimized a bit by their club. Not only did they reward their loyal supporters with a 2-0 win, but they also presented them with a new car after they had to abandon their Civic and take the equally long and painful Trans-Siberian railroad home.
