2006 Goals of the Year
By: Bob | December 29th, 2006Time flies when you are having fun and 2006 was certainly a lightning fast year of football fun around these parts. Thank you all for joining me for the ride. I’m going to spend the few remaining hours left in the year watching replays of the 1982 Romanian league season and avoiding my computer like the plague. I’ll be back on Tuesday to usher in another year of sex scandals, fights, controversies, poor grammar and Kazakhstan soccer dominance. Here’s a blurry YouTube video with some of the better goals from the year that was. Like most things on this site, you’ll probably enjoy it best after your 12th drink on Sunday night. I wish each and every one of you nothing but the best in 2007. Be safe out there. See you on the other side.

Don’t want to offend anyone, but that’s a pretty crappy compilation. There were more impressive goals in the Chelsea-Wigan match a week ago.
Goal of the Year:
Steven Gerrard’s 91st minute blast in the FA Cup final against West Ham to send it to extra time.Posted from

excuse me, but r you watching the same vid as i am? gerrard’s goal was only great bcos of the situation and moment in the game–it was a last-minute equaliser. it has nothing on fred’s goal, or crouch’s bicycle kick. chelski-wigan? you call those flukes by heskey, robben and kalou impressive? even bentley’s goal was better than gerrard’s in terms of technique. i daresay every goal in the cannonball category was better than gerrard’s. you ppl have been blinded by the EPL. there ARE other good players in the so-called ‘lesser’ leagues who can hit a ball, you know.

This one may not be the best because of how the keeper played it, but it’s worth having a look… Go Ligue 1!

Kinda jumping the gun there, aren’t ya, dan? I actually follow all leagues, even MLS. In fact, I have fantasy teams in the Primera Division and Ligue 1, along with two EPL teams. Am I biased toward Stevie G and Liverpool? Bet your arse I am, but that doesn’t take away from the skill and precision his goal took, not to mention the immense amount of pressure. Bicycle kicks are nice, but Cups are nicer.
