2006/07 English Premier League Money Table

By: Bob | May 15th, 2007

soccer-piggy-bank.jpgWe all know that in the world of football the rich clubs keep getting richer and the smaller clubs are left fighting for table scraps. The Champions League is certainly playing a role in all this. When you look at the television cash and prize money that the English Premier League teams brought in during in 2006/07 you see that the big four all benefited greatly from the big European Cup.

These figures don’t include gate receipts, merchandise income and sponsorship money, which only increase the disparity between those who are on the top and those who are on the street corner with their hands out begging.

Earnings in Millions of Pounds

1. Man Utd -62.92m
2. Chelsea – 60.15
3. Liverpool – 54.71
4. Arsenal – 44.14
5. Tottenham – 30.55
6. Everton –25.67
7. Bolton – 25.11
8. Reading -24.42
9. Portsmouth – 23.47
10. Blackburn – 24.68
11. Aston Villa – 22.20
12. Middlesbrough – 21.84
13. Newcastle – 22.48
14. Manchester City – 22.39
15. West Ham – 20.99
16. Fulham – 20.78
17. Wigan – 18.70
18. Sheff Utd – 18.12
19. Charlton – 18.12
20. Watford – 17.98

Apparently these kinds of numbers are still attractive to foreign investors or at least the dude who owns DC United.

It's not surprising that the order is close to the final standings, given that the earnings are mostly based on finishing position in the Premiership, i.e, so much for first, second, third, etc.

It's amazing that next year, even the bottom team in the Premiership will make almost as much as Tottenham did in fifth for their efforts in all competitions.

It's pretty incredible how close that order is to the final standings in the Premiership ... huh ...
