2007 MLS Jerseys
By: Bob | March 26th, 2007
The MLS season kicks off on April 7. This is a big year for Major League Soccer and we’re going to do our best to cover it from all angles. Starting tomorrow we will start rolling out our season previews for the individual teams. Today we take a look at the various jerseys that will be worn by the MLS teams in 2007. In a league where there is only one kit provider, Adidas, there isn’t much diversity but some teams will look niftier than others.
Classic colors that are not helped by the silly looking bib of the Adidas design. The red home kit looks way better than the white road jersey.
Chivas USA

The traditional stripes of the parent club in Mexico don’t look so bad. The home and away are very similar, however.
It is interesting that a team that has a partnership with Arsenal chooses to wear colors associated with West Ham, but that is apparently the case in Colorado. I couldn’t track down the away kit but will add it when discovered.
Columbus Crew

There is nothing spectacular or truly horrible about the bumblebee look. I’ve always been a fan of the Crew’s cartoonish badge. It reminds me of the crew that I run with.
Another cookie cutter look that neither thrills nor repulses. The stars above the badge are what stand out.
FC Dallas

On the positive side the hoops are different. One the negative side these uniforms are just plain ugly. The away grey/blue reminds me of the bib I used to wear when my mother feed me baby food as a toddler.
Houston Dynamo

As a reward for winning the league title last season the Dynamo get to wear a crooked stripe instead of the standard MLS bib. The orange, blue and white combination works well for me but I am not color blind.
Look up the definition of boring and you’ll find a picture of the Wizards’ duds.
Sadly, I have not been able to track down any of the Herbalife-sponsored shirts with their pot leaves, but just picture the jerseys above with the company name and logo. I have always liked the Galaxy’s kits and colors but I am fashion blind so take it with a grain of salt.
The colors and kits are fine but the font leaves a lot to be desired. I also am not a big fan of the American flag crest. Save it for the national team.
If you look sugary energy drinks that will keep you up for four days straight than you will love the walking billboard that is the Red Bulls uniform.
Real Salt Lake

The home red is a bit more flashy than the boring white away jersey. You’ll have to picture the name of the club’s sponsor on the kit since jerseys with this advertising are not yet available through the official MLS store.
It is Bank of Montreal that is sponsoring the new expansion club’s stadium in Toronto as well as the kits. Contrary to what you see in the picture, the players will not be forced to wear jackets while playing, although they might come in handy early in the season if the snow piles up.
You’ve seen them all now. Which is your favorite and which would you rather use as a dish rag than wear?

The Real Salt Lake home jersey is pretty sweet, also the grey Toronto kit is nice.

Most of them are boring. I would say the Dynamo home is my favorite and the Dallas away is the worst.

It’s amusing that the Dynamo won the title last year wearing off the rack adidas kits, thanks to the 1836 fiasco…

I don’t think the Adidas deal is much fun, I much preferred the old Puma ones the Fire had. I like the Rapids one though, even if it reminds me of the Hammers.

It’s high time MLS allowed each club to negotiate its own jersey deal. Let’s get some competition, and hopefully some originality. Sure, some of the less popular clubs might struggle to land a deal with a reputable brand, but at least they’ll look different.

They are all really ugly. Surely the kit designers could have come up with something a little bit better than that? I do like the Rapids one though, still a bit boring but at least it doesn’t make me want to spork my eyes out.

Here’s an image of the new Galaxy top. Imagine that: an Oregon kid with a pot leaf on his shirt.

IMHO, all leagues need a “boring” type of jersey, such as what Kansas City is wearing.
The NFL has the Colts, College Football has Penn State, so why can’t MLS have the Wizards?
And finally, remember Kansas City’s previous uniforms? With that rainbow thing? Ugh. So this balances that out a bit (provided they wear that jersey for awhile).
