250-1 Odds that Tony Blair will be the Next Newcastle Manager
By: Bob | May 10th, 2007
Now that British Prime Minister Tony Blair has announced that he is stepping down from office in late June, the speculation about what he will do next with his life is in full force. Will he embark on a motivational speaking tour of the United States? Will he become a university lecturer? Or will he decide to do something nobler with his life after politics? Perhaps even manage Newcastle United.
As crazy and as far fetched as that may sound, there are bookmakers in the UK who are taking wagers that Blair will be the next manager of his favorite English Premier League club. Paddy Power is offering 250-1 odds that he will be on the Magpies sideline. Take that, Big Sam!
If you are a gambler looking for a higher payoff, however, you might want to consider throwing down a few quid on Blair replacing David Beckham as the next face of Gillette. Considering the lingering Botox controversy surrounding Becks’ mug, those 500-1 odds don’t seem too far fetched. Not as far fetched as, say, Blair becoming the next President of America, which has 1000-1 odds. Everyone knows the US would never elect a Newcastle fan.

Do you reckon that Newcastle would be strong on the left and weak on defense if Blair was the boss?

Interesting that there are actually 1000-1 odds of Tony Blair becoming US President, which is a legal impossibility since he wasn’t born in the US, but only 50-1 against him being found drunk in Leicester Square.
