Messi’s Golden Boots Sold for 4,000 Euros

Messi bootsRemember when Messi scored that goal for Barcelona against Getafe that was just like Maradona’s? Someone at a charity auction in Beijing does, because they just paid 4,000 Euros ($5,514, apparently) to buy the very boots that young Lionel was wearing when he toasted five defenders and a keeper.

Now I don’t know what size the winning bidder wears, or what size Messi wears for that matter, but if I just paid 4,000 Euros for a pair of boots then there’s no way they’d be sitting around in a box somewhere. Maybe I have no appreciation for the art of collecting, or maybe I read too many issues of Billy’s Boots growing up, but I’d lace those puppies up on a Sunday morning and run at some defenders, just in case some of that Messi magic was still in there.
