A Celebration of Falcão

By: Daryl | July 7th, 2009

You may have seen this futsal goal from Brazil’s Falcão on a couple of other blogs recently. I caught it on both The Spoiler and Pies and enjoyed it both times.

If that whetted your appetite, there’s plenty more Falcão fantasy football after the jump:

A very similar goal to the one above:

And more highlights:

Robinho vs Falcão:

Want to copy a few of Falcão’s tricks? Best of luck:

The question most people ask after seeing Falcão in action is: Why didn’t he play proper football? Well, he did, briefly. Falcão played half about half a season for São Paulo in 2005, here’s footage of him doing just that (he’s the number 12 that comes off the bench)

But it didn’t work out and so he returned to futsal that same year. I used to think that was a sad sad story, but now I’m not so sure.

The potential riches are obviously far greater in 11-a-side football, but seems Falcão is plenty famous from playing futsal. And if you had skills like Falcão’s, would you really want to be laboring up and down an 11-a-side football field, tracking opposition players and getting accused of being greedy or wasteful if you do too many tricks? Or would you rather play the game you were clearly born to play, where you can show off your superhuman skills?

Let me phrase that another way: If Falcão had decided to play football instead of futsal from the start, then we wouldn’t have all the above incredible YouTube footage to enjoy.

Plenty more video can be found at Falcão’s official website.

It is little wonder that Ronaldinho called him his hero.

Falcão didn’tt have enough time at Sao Paulo. The coach Leão didn’t like him at the time and he was too expensive to be just a trial.
