A Day of Thanks

By: chris | November 27th, 2008

Today is Thanksgiving in the US, and we’ve decided, like most Americans will do, to go around our Offside round table and list some things we’re thankful for. For those who don’t know what Thanksgiving is, it’s the last Thursday in November when Americans control the turkey population and then unnecessarily gorge themselves on food to celebrate a day in the 17th century when the settlers gave thanks for the chance to steal a country from an entire indigenous people. Or something like that.

So this is what we’re each thankful for.

Daryl

I’m thankful for Football Manager 2009. [shameless link to FM Offside] Because turns out you don’t really need to go outside anyway.

I’m thankful for internet streams because they’re plentiful and because they’re free and because the picture quality is nowhere near good enough to make you feel like you’re doing anything wrong.

I’m thankful for Fabio Capello. He’s stopped England being an international laughing stock.

I’m thankful that Wolves have finally gotten it together and are six points clear at the top of the Championship. But not thankful enough that I’m making any assumptions about promotion. Not yet anyway.

Laurie

I’m thankful that they have Champions League games the day before Thanksgiving, because that’s two hours when I’m not thinking about all of this holiday joy and cheer I’m going to be experiencing.

I’m thankful that Nicolas Anelka has found his shooting boots because now my maternal area has one less player to worry about.

I’m thankful that Alexi Lalas is no longer employed by MLS, and particularly by any team I care about.

I’m thankful for France manager Raymond Domenech and the French Football Federation. Except not really.

Chris

I’m thankful for Nicklas Bendtner’s mullet, because it makes me feel much better about desperately needing a haircut.

I’m thankful for the amazing renaissance of Matteo Brighi. And that no one has asked for a urine sample yet.

I’m thankful for the Bundesliga. Just in general. They seem to be the one league which gets most everything right and is pretty damn exciting to boot.

I’m also thankful for France manager Raymond Domenech and the French Football Federation. Except really.

And last but not least…

All of us are thankful for the brilliant and talented and funny and knowledgeable and undoubtedly good looking team bloggers who make The Offside what it is. And for our tech guys, who are almost always very nice when we crash the site, and always bring it up quickly again.
