A Name to Remember: Dawid Janczyk

By: Bob | June 22nd, 2007

dawid-janczyk.jpgWith Wayne Rooney reaching the practically over-the-hill age of 21, it is about time that the football world finds someone who will be the “next Wayne Rooney”. That someone may just turn out to be Dawid Janczyk, a 19-year-old Polish forward who is drawing comparisons to the Manchester United star.

Featuring a sturdy frame that is similar to Rooney’s and a pace that is beyond his years, Janczyk made his debut for the Polish first division club Legia Warszawa when he was 17. He scored five goals in 18 matches and helped his club to a league championship.

It was at the U-19 European championships, however, where Janczyk really began to make a name for himself. He scored a hat-trick against Belgium and his play brought about comparisons to another striker, the great Zbigniew Boniek who has heaped praise on the young player.

Jancyzk’s skills have attracted the attention of the usual big club suspects in Europe. He’ll have a chance to further improve his stock this summer when he leads Poland into the U-20 World Cup this summer. Requisite goal scoring video with dodgy music below.

How long until he plays for Germany?

He sort of reminds me more of Van Nistelrooy or Robbie Fowler, he just knows how to finish.

Damn, I didn’t thought he’s so popular outside Poland. Well, i don’t know if he is really good, cause i’m not interested in our corrupted league. It’s so disgusting.
Don’t think he’ll play for germany, though. :) But Podolski and Klose are kind of a traitors… Especially Klose, because in spite of him being born here in Poland, he says he don’t feel anything to our country and claims that we gave him nothing.
    Cheers

Yup, but in my opinion Podolski is not a traitor. He left Poland, when he was 4 or 5 and his football education has started in Germany, so Lukas should be grateful to this country and he is. However, in contrast to Klose, Podolski is proud of that he was born in Poland and often speak highly of our country. He has eaten a dinner with Żurawski, last time I`ve read about his visit in Górnik Zabrze, so it shows that Poland is not indiffrent to him.
