A Name to Remember: Etienne Emmanuel Eto’o

By: Bob | February 28th, 2007

ettiene-etoo.jpgAnyone who has an older brother who isn’t a complete fuck up will tell you that it is difficult to follow in a sibling’s footsteps. Etienne Emmanuel Eto’o’s older brother Samuel is hardly a fuck up. The Cameroon international plays for that little club called Barcelona and could be in line to win his fourth consecutive African Player of the Year award on Thursday.

The younger Eto’o is starting to make a name of his own and he is starting to attract the attention of the world’s bigger clubs including Arsenal. A forward like his brother, the 18-year-old Etienne Emmanuel Eto’o is under contract to Real Mallorca in Spain and is currently playing on-loan with the lower division club SD La Salle.

Eto’o has been a mainstay on Cameroon’s youth teams and was named to the Africa all-star squad for the upcoming Meridian Cup, a competition between under-18 players from Africa and Europe.

Based on his name alone Eto’o will attract attention. It remains to be seen how far his talent will take him, but even if he has a fraction of his older brother’s skills he could be a player to keep an eye on in the coming years.
