A Name to Remember: Jack Wilshere

By: Daryl | April 28th, 2008

Get a load of young Jack Wilshere playing for Arsenal Reserves vs West Ham Reserves recently. First of all, remember that Wilshere is only 16-years-old and that reserve football is for grown ass men. Then take a look at how he sets up the first goal, dribbling inside and threading a pass through a tiny, tiny gap. Then take a look at the second goal, bent perfectly into the upper 90 with his left foot.

It even gets a smile from Arsene Wenger (only just detectable, because Wenger’s face isn’t used to it, but still a smile) and who can blame him? England fans should be smiling too, because the lad’s using his left foot. A left footed English footballer who isn’t Ashley Cole or Stewart Downing? Happy days. No doubt Jack Wilshere is a name to remember, and I’m guessing we’ll be seeing him in the 2008/9 Carling Cup.

I hope they let him grow before thrusting him into the limelight..I think the English have a tendency to get too excited too soon about players like this...remember Rooney..any other country and he'd be just another good striker..
  • Definitely. Although... David Bentley is probably shaking his head knowingly right about now.
  • An English player in an Arsenal jersey ... surely not. He does look like a great young talent.

Thanks for the great clip, Daryl. I don't know about Arsene; if there was a smile there, it was barely detectable, but it sure brought a smile to my face. It is just a joy to see such talent in one so young. Must be the teacher in me! Definitely a kid to watch.
