A Name to Remember: Lulinha

By: Bob | August 10th, 2007

lulinha.jpgIt has been a few months since we’ve come across a player being dubbed the New Ronaldinho which means that Luiz Marcelo Morais dos Reis – Lulinha to friends and family – is ready to fill the void. The 17-year-old attacking midfielder will be on display in at the upcoming U-17 World Cup in Korea and you can bet that more than a few scouting eyes will be watching him.

Lulinha is a player who has been hyped for a number of years in Brazil. He joined the Corinthians youth system at the tender age of eight. At the age of 15 he scored 27 goals in 15 games during the Paulista U-17 Championship. Earlier this year he made his debut for the Corinthians senior side.

His domestic form has carried over to the international level. He led Brazil’s U-17 team to the South American championship, scoring 12 goals in 7 matches, a feat that has captured the attention of the usual suspects – Real Madrid, Inter Milan, AC Milan, et al.

Other than his bevy of tricks, I don’t think the comparison to Ronaldinho necessarily holds up, but there is do denying that Lulinha is a player with considerable talent and that his is a name to remember.
