A Name to Remember: Ransford Osei

ransford-osei-ghana.jpgThere are two teams left in the U-17 World Cup with Spain and Nigeria set to meet in the final on Sunday. It has come as no surprise that one of the top players in the tournament has been Spain’s Bojan Krkic. The Barcelona youngster appears to be the real deal. Another player who has lived up to the pre-tournament hype is Ghana striker Ransford Osei.

Osei scored five goals in six games to help lead the Black Starlets (possibly the best youth team name around) into the competition’s semifinals where they eventually fell to Spain. The 16-year-old from Accra plays for Kessaben FC in Ghana’s first division, but he isn’t expected to be there much longer.

Possessing a natural goal scoring instinct and excellent speed, Osei could be the next great player to come from Ghana. He is being considered for a spot on his country’s senior team. Or he could fade into obscurity. Either way we are likely to find out with teams like Manchester United, Lyon and Tottenham rumored to be eager to sign him.

There aren’t any glowing YouTube tributes to the lad yet, but here is a goal he scored against Peru. His celebration is more impressive than the goal itself.
