Abedi Pele needs to work on his Match-Fixing skills
By: Bob | April 17th, 2007
You all are undoubtedly honest people. Let’s suspend reality for a moment and say that you are dishonest. In fact, you are willing to do anything to help your team win, including fixing a match. The thing is that you don’t want anyone to know about it. You don’t want to draw attention to your match fixing. Wouldn’t you try to make it happen so that it was just a matter of an extra goal here or an extra goal there?
Former Ghana football star Abedi Pele is in hot water after allegations surfaced that his team, FC Nania, was involved in a fixed match last month. How did the suspicions arise?
The FA’s decision was announced on Wednesday afternoon after its hearings and investigations into the shameful games last month that saw the final qualifying games of the National Middle League record cricket scores.
Nania beat Okwahu 31:0 at Sekondi while Great Mariners also walloped Mighty Jets by 28:0 at Cape Coast on March 28 during the final round of matches for qualification into the Premier Division.
The results immediately raised eyebrows and the FA set up a committee to investigate the suspicious games.
Gee, who would have thought that anyone would have noticed that his team won by 31 goals in a final round match with promotion on the line?
Pele, who was a three-time African Football of the Year and is ambassador for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, has not commented on the allegations.
