Adrian Bastia Sent Off for Tripping a Pitch Invader
By: Daryl | November 30th, 2008Busy game for Asteras Tripolis player Adrian Bastia. Not only did he score a 70th minute equalizer against Panathinaikos (no vid, just story) in the Greek Super League – giving Asteras what we can assume to be a damn fine 1-1 draw away from home – but with full time approaching he ended a pitch invasion pretty abruptly with a well timed trip.
Personally I think Bastia deserves a pat on the back for his perfect timing and execution. If a pitch invader is dumb enough to interrupt a game then he shouldn’t be surprised when he gets brought down. So fair play to Bastia. Unfortunately the ref saw it differentkly and showed Bastia a straight red. Which is absolutely insane. Because if you watch the vid again, Bastia wasn’t even the last man.
Props to 101GG for spotting this.

Did Bertie the Bee see yellow as well? If not, I believe we have a pro-bee bias.

The bigger question is, why is Adrian Grenier of Entourage invading the pitch anyway?

He should have been sent off for that haircut long before this incident.

Yeah I guess the ref is forced to do that by the rules. In a weird way it is good that all forms of violence are punished on the pitch, including violence against non-players… these players are an example to loads of people after all.
On the other hand, it’s ridiculous. And I applaud him for that tackle

In the MLS season, Chris Klein of the Galaxy knocked the shit out of a pitch invader running towards Beckham

So, the message the FA is sending to fans here is: if you want to see one of the opponent players ejected, try invading the pitch and provoking him. Brilliant.
