Almeria Steals The New Messi

By: chris | July 11th, 2008

(Two minute intro, fyi.)

How do you top a shockingly successful season in La Liga directly after promotion? Easy. Just shatter the club’s transfer fee record and beat Manchester United and Juventus to one of the true wonderkids in world football. No word on the fee, but it’s reportedly huge.

Pablo Piatti is a 19 yo three foot seven (or thereabouts) attacking phenomenon from Estudiantes who has been likened to Lionel Messi, Kun Aguerro, Sebastian Giovinco, Alexandre Pato, etc. etc. Basically, he’s just “next”. And now Almeria, a modest club who will soon partake in only their fourth La Liga season ever, have the next big thing. Good for them.
