And if Beckham scores a goal I will repossess your house

scalper.jpgThe great David Beckham coming to America saga has felt a bit like a kidney stone. The buildup was painful and the actual passing of the stone feels like it is taking forever. Relief may or may not be in sight this weekend when Beckham’s LA Galaxy play in Toronto. Beckham is indeed traveling north of the border. It remains to be seen whether his $250 million ankle will be healed enough for him to play a few minutes.

As Tom on the Pitch Invasion points out, one group of people who have a vested interest in seeing Beckham play are the ticket scalpers. An excerpt from a scalper’s ad on Craigslist:

Since Beckham’s status is still up in the air (see the CBC report at the end of this message)…I would like to sell these tickets for $60 each, $120 for the pair if Beckham does not play. If Beckham does end up playing then I will process another $100 on your credit card.

So it’s $120 or best offer for the pair if Beckham does NOT play and $220 or best offer if Beckham DOES play.

It is reassuring to see that even though Beckham has yet to change the sport of soccer in North America he has at least changed the way that scalpers do business.

As a side note, I have a couple of extra tickets to the game. I’m asking $75 if Quavas Kirk plays and $125 if he does not.
