And You Thought Djimi Traore’s Own Goal Was Bad…

By: Daryl | March 31st, 2008

This magnificent own goal is from last Thursday’s Hungarian Cup second leg tie between Debrecen and Fehervar. Fehervar had won the first leg 2-1, but champions Debrecen were winning the second leg 2-1 in the 86th minute. Extra time beckoned until Fehervar gave away a penalty. The penalty was saved, but – possibly because God hates Fehervar – defender Jan Durica fired the ball into the top right corner.

Either Durica was trying a little too hard to clear the ball, or he was showing the penalty taker how it should be done. You can tell exactly how crushed the Fehervar players are by the way they all fall to the floor in despair. At least the ref sees the funny side though.

Own goal scholars are encouraged to compare and contrast with Djimi Traore’s 2005 effort.

Devastating. That’s the sort of thing that can derail a player’s career. Somebody page the club shrink, stat!

Wow. How do you go into the locker room after that? It would have been a really nice strike, too, if it had been going the other direction. That’s certainly one of the worst I’ve seen.

I’m sure he’ll be receiving a threat or two from some die-hard fans…

I love the progression of reactions from the team.

Elation, Confusion, Pain, Despair, then Determination to get one back.

“Elation, Confusion, Pain, Despair, then Determination to get one back.”

    Sounds like my last relationship.

He could try that a 100 times again, he would not hit it as perfect.

I hear AS Roma are looking to sign the defender, to pair him up with Matteo Ferrari.

Those are impressive and all, but let’s not ignore the greatest own goal ever…
