Apparently Punching Someone in the Face is Just a Yellow Card in Croatia

By: Daryl | November 4th, 2008

This video clearly shows Hadjuk Split defender Jurica Buljat landing a good ‘un on a Varteks Varazdin player. It shows it in spotlight, in slo-mo and even in backwards time. He swings, connects and floors the guy. But for some reason, he only gets a yellow.

Seems the ref was looking the other way when knuckle met nose, but as 101 Great Goals point out, the linesman had a clear view.

So why just a yellow for Buljat? Did they give him a yellow for the punch or for something else? Maybe they changed the rules so that punching someone out is now just a yellow? If so, I think Buljat just discovered another way to defend against Rory Delap’s throw-ins.

I guess the ref didn't see it and just thought he'd throw out a yellow card to be safe. Still, what the hells the linesman doing in that case? Crazy.
