Are You Sure It Was Stevie Gerrard and Not Joey Barton?

By: Daryl | December 29th, 2008

Is it just me, or is Steven Gerrard’s arrest on suspicion of assault last night completely out of character?

If it was Joey Barton, then we’d all just shrug. He’s got history in this department (and then some). But as far as I can remember, Gerrard’s been a model pro for the last ten years (that one pre-England drinky-drink aside). Gerrard and Barton even look a bit similar, so for a second I thought maybe this was a case of mistaken identity. But sadly not.

We still don’t know what’s happened or what’s going to happen, so this is nothing more than idle speculation. But basically five men are in custody on suspicion of assaulting a DJ in Southport last night, and one of them is Stevie G.

If all this ends up with Gerrard out of the game for a stretch (for whatever reason) then you have to fear for Liverpool’s so-far-so-good Premier League title challenge. If Gerrard’s guilty then so be it, but I for one am hoping that we don’t see one team’s potentially Premier League winning season ruined by a fight in a nightclub.

If it was Joey Barton, everybody would be going crazy, booing him, calling for him to be banned etc., but when it's Gerrard, then it seems ok to go and kick the shit out of someone with a big gang. Bullshit. Fuck you thieving scousers...

What probably happened was that someone that didn't like him or Liverpool started some shit and several of his fans ended it.
  • Daryl, there are developments - http://news.yahoo.com/s/afp/20...

    Directly quoting from the report...

'Gerrard's wife, and the mother of his two daughters, Alex Curran left a coffee shop near the police station where he was being questioned shortly after 2:30 pm (1430GMT) Monday.

Curran, a model and fashion columnist, refused to answer questions from reporters before driving off in her car.

Meanwhile the sister of the Lounge Inn co-owner, Dario Curcillo, said Gerrard had been there to celebrate his team's win over Newcastle.

"As far as I know he comes here regularly and it was just a normal night at the bar," she said. "I don't know anything about what happened last night."

She added her brother was unavailable for comment.'
