Argentina Soccer Playoff Ends with Crazy Riot

By: Bob | June 26th, 2007

It was a crazy, yet not entirely unfamiliar, scene during the second leg of the promotion playoff in Argentina between Nueva Chicago and Tigre. Leading 3-1 on aggregate, Tigre were awarded a penalty in injury time. The Nueva Chicago fans decided they had seen enough and they stormed the pitch before the penalty could be taken. That’s when proverbial, and actual, hell broke out on the pitch and in the rush hour freeway traffic outside the stadium. The final scorecard: 1 dead, 14 injured, 78 arrested and 0 surprised that this could happen.
